Can I use paper materials in an ESD workstation?
Yes, you can use paper materials in an anti-static workstation, but the best practice is to use anti-static copy paper.
Plain paper is insulating, and placing static-sensitive items on plain paper will interrupt the grounding path between the item and the antistatic work surface. However, paper is hygroscopic (easily absorbs moisture) and so can be considered if sufficient moisture is ensured to provide an acceptable ground path.
If using plain paper, be disciplined not to put ESDS on the paper, especially during periods of low humidity.
