Safety in Production is Paramount - Anti-static Measures
Why do coal mine explosions occur so frequently? After years of analysis and research, the issue of anti-static measures is often the most easily overlooked.



Many enterprises in my country's coal industry lack sufficient understanding of the dangers of static electricity on the human body, or hold incorrect views, thus failing to take effective preventative measures. This is extremely dangerous and should be corrected as soon as possible. Let's carefully analyze the causes of coal mine gas explosions: first, sparks from electrical leakage can trigger gas explosions; second, sparks generated by static electricity on the human body can trigger gas explosions. If the above analysis is correct, but we remain indifferent to the dangers of static electricity on the human body, tragedy is inevitable. If we recognize the dangers caused by static electricity on the human body, but mistakenly believe that pure cotton clothing can prevent static electricity, this will seriously affect safe production underground. This is because pure cotton fibers themselves are insulators; when the relative humidity is below 50%, the static charge on pure cotton fabric is sometimes higher than that on synthetic fiber fabric. Therefore, pure cotton work clothes cannot replace anti-static work clothes. This is especially important to note in dry seasons and dry regions. Currently, many coal miners in China use pure cotton work clothes instead of anti-static work clothes when working underground, which inevitably leads to tragedies and severely impacts safe production underground. Coal mining enterprises in my country should uniformly equip themselves with anti-static clothing, shoes, and socks capable of dissipating static electricity from the human body, forming a strong anti-static network underground, based on individual workers, to eliminate or reduce gas explosions caused by static sparks from the human body.
