The Unique Properties of Antistatic Shielding Bags

Generally, antistatic packaging bags themselves do not easily generate static electricity. However, when electrostatic discharge (ESD) occurs outside the packaging bag, due to their poor shielding performance against external ESD, the electronic components inside the bag can be affected by the external ESD (electrostatic discharge) and may even be damaged. Components highly sensitive to static electricity can still be affected.

For example, some factory components are qualified and packaged in antistatic bags before leaving the factory, but upon arrival at the customer's location, some PCB boards or components are found to be malfunctioning. This is because although the ESD packaging bag itself does not easily generate static electricity, it cannot shield against external ESD. For example, during transportation, static electricity from handling machinery can cause ESD from the machine mannequin (MM), and static electricity from the bodies of loading and unloading workers can cause ESD from the human body mannequin (HBM) or metal mannequin. Therefore, the surface resistance of ordinary antistatic packaging bags is insufficient to shield against external ESD. For such components, antistatic shielding bags should typically be selected.

ESD SHIELDING BAG

Antistatic shielding bags not only possess the antistatic properties of all antistatic packaging bags, but also shield against ESD (electrostatic discharge) and external electromagnetic radiation from personnel and equipment. They are composed of multiple layers of highly conductive and anti-electromagnetic materials and are typically opaque. Antistatic shielding bags are more expensive than traditional antistatic packaging bags.

They can be used for packaging sensitive devices where antistatic and electromagnetic interference protection are critical.

Other properties: Electromagnetic interference attenuation, puncture resistance, and water vapor permeability are all superior to those of antistatic packaging.
