Anti-static wrist straps, also known as anti-static wristbands, are the primary line of defense against static electricity and are the most common personnel grounding devices in the electronics industry. They are essential, especially when operators are seated. The main function of the wristband is to safely disperse static electricity generated by the human body to the ground, a requirement of the IEC-61340-5-1 international standard and an important component of the Antistatic Protection Program (EPA).
Wristband Appearance and Materials
Wristbands are typically made in a bright color for easy visibility and are designed for close contact with the skin to establish a grounding path. Each wristband is made of a comfortable material with embedded silver conductive braided fibers for maximum conductivity and minimal skin irritation. The strap should be kept clean, snug, and comfortable. Loose or dirty straps can cause intermittent contact with the ground, increasing the risk of electrostatic discharge. The outer surface of the wristband is insulating to ensure operator safety.
