Correct use of electrostatic field tester

SIMCO FMX-003 is a non-contact electrostatic field tester. It is a testing instrument often used by ESD engineers because of its small size and weight, easy to carry and easy to use.

However, improper use of humans will cause great errors in the test results, because people cannot be as accurate as machines no matter what, so errors are inevitable, but we can reduce human errors as much as possible by mastering the correct method of use .

1) First of all, the measurement results of the non-contact tester are greatly affected by the distance and the geometric size of the sample to be tested. The change of the distance between the probe and the sample to be tested will cause a large test error. The probe is placed at a fixed spatial position perpendicular to the surface of the charged object to be measured. When the charged amount of the measured object is large, in order to avoid electrostatic discharge between the charged body and the probe shell during the test, the probe should gradually approach the measured object from a distant position during the test;

2) Keep away from the grounding body, the measured object is a thin sheet, and the backside is close to the grounding body, there is a danger of ESD discharge.

3) The sample to be tested is not a flat plate. When there is a large curvature, the test result will be quite different from its actual voltage value.

4) Minimize the influence of the external electric field on the test signal. The common method is to add a shielding sleeve to the probe and ground it.

Finally, the influence of the instrument itself on the measurement accuracy should also be considered, and the instrument should be regularly calibrated and calibrated according to the "Calibration Specification for Electrostatic Voltmeter". Usually the test accuracy should be able to test the electrostatic voltage of plus or minus 10Ω.
