The harmful effects of static electricity
The harmful effects of static electricity on the electronics industry are mainly manifested in the following three ways: dust adsorption, electrostatic discharge and electrostatic induction.

(1) Dust adsorption
The electrostatic adsorption effect on dust of a few to tens of microns is obvious. Dust has a great impact on microelectronics production. In modern microelectronics production, the line width of the chip has reached 0.1 micron. A dust particle with a diameter of several microns adsorbed on the chip can reduce the insulation strength between more than a dozen core wires, causing a short circuit and chip damage.
(2) Electrostatic discharge (ESD)
Electrostatic discharge can cause the dielectric of the integrated circuit chip to break down, the core wire to fuse, the leakage current to increase and accelerate aging, and the electrical performance parameters to change. Electrostatic discharge has the potential to damage the chip and slow failure, which is more harmful.
(3) Electrostatic induction
Electrostatic induction not only has the harmful effects of electrostatic discharge, but also can cause the computer and low-level digital circuits to flip due to the wide-band interference it produces, or cause the instrument (meter) to malfunction.
