Why do antistatic shoes prevent static electricity?

Static electricity is something most people are familiar with. Its harm to the human body mainly manifests as psychological distress and fear, which can lead to accidents and cause indirect harm. However, in industry, the true dangers of static electricity become apparent. It can cause static fires, static explosions, and other accidents, endangering workers' lives and causing property damage.

In industry, there are many antistatic products, such as antistatic clothing and ion fans. Here, we will only discuss antistatic shoes. First, analyzing the materials, antistatic shoes can be divided into PVC and PU. Antistatic shoes can conduct static electricity from the human body to the ground, thus eliminating static electricity on the body. They also effectively suppress dust generated by personnel walking in cleanrooms. Antistatic shoes use static dissipative materials such as PU or PVC to make the soles, achieving anti-slip and antistatic properties.

The main function of antistatic shoes is to decay static electricity to a safe range within a certain time. This safe range is the standard value for safe production, and it will not cause any damage to the product. This is the process of static electricity elimination, and the principle of antistatic shoes is based on this standard.

According to GB4385-1995 "Technical Requirements for Antistatic and Conductive Shoes", the resistance ranges for antistatic and conductive shoes are 100kΩ to 1000MΩ and not greater than 100kΩ, respectively. Leather shoes should comply with GB1002-1005; cloth-upholstered rubber-soled shoes should comply with HG/T2495. In addition to electrical properties, the main technical performance indicators for antistatic and conductive shoes include outsole abrasion resistance, adhesion strength between the welt and upper, outsole flexural strength, outsole abrasion resistance, and peel strength of the finished shoe.
