Electrostatic knowledge

What is static?

Static electricity is a natural phenomenon that exists objectively. As long as the objects rub against each other, static electricity is generated.

When the object is separated and then separated, static electricity can be generated. Each of the following steps will generate static electricity: triboelectric, electrostatic induction, capacitance change, electric field and electrostatic induction.

In daily life, you can feel static electricity from the following aspects:

* Lightning

* Winter touch on the carpet and contact inductance when touching the hand

* The buzz generated when wearing clothes in winter

* Shame seems to have no effect on us, but it has a big impact on electronic components and electronic circuit boards.

2. Why do you want to prevent static electricity?

Why do electronic components need anti-static?

Current electronic products are moving toward small size, light weight, and strong functions, so many microelectronic devices are widely used. These devices feature low power consumption, low voltage, high input impedance and integration. However, these devices have low withstand voltage, allow small currents to pass, and are sensitive to static electricity. Electrostatic fields and static currents are constantly threatening these static-sensitive devices, which are at risk of being damaged or failing due to static electricity.

3. Static damage and protection

Components sensitive to static electricity:

MOS circuit, CMOS circuit, field effect transistor, operational amplifier, PROM, Schottky diode, etc.

What are the damage caused by static electricity?

The damage caused by static electricity is hard breakdown and soft breakdown.

* Hard breakdown: The components are completely damaged and lose their function.

* Soft breakdown: Some static sensitive devices are not easy to find after being damaged by static electricity. Only after repeated turnover, even after the official use of electronic products, this slight damage is called soft breakdown. . Soft breakdown can not be found without comprehensive testing. If the condition is small, the device will fail, and the consequences will be more serious than hard breakdown.

4. What are the elements of electrostatic protection?

* Popularize and train the relevant personnel on electrostatic protection knowledge.

* ESD protection should be fully considered when designing electronic products, and static electricity accumulation should be quickly and reliably eliminated where static electricity may occur.

* Use static protection tools such as anti-static wrist straps, anti-static alcohol bottles, ion fans, anti-static overalls, anti-static work shoes, anti-static turnover boxes, etc.
