Driver Sudden Fireball Ignites While Refueling
A driver was suddenly engulfed in a ball of fire while refueling. Fire investigators initially determined the fire was caused by static electricity.
A passenger car caught fire while refueling at a self-service gas station. The fuel tank suddenly erupted in flames. The female driver panicked, and the burning gasoline instantly formed a "fiery snake" on the ground. A staff member rushed to the gas pump and pulled the gas nozzle shutoff. By then, the fire had already shot up high, and black smoke billowed. Four staff members immediately rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames. Rescue personnel from the Xiqing Fire Brigade arrived and cleaned up the scene.
Preliminary investigations by fire investigators concluded that the fire was caused by static electricity, and the vehicle was damaged.
Anti-static experts warn: With the drier autumn weather, the dangers of static electricity must be carefully considered. When refueling at self-service gas stations, always follow operating procedures and perform a static elimination procedure before refueling.
