When wearing anti-static work clothes, should the front of the work clothes be closed?
Our anti-static protection program for production personnel includes the use of anti-static work clothing. What I want to know is if the anti-static gown is not clamped on the front, how effective is the shielding? My question is, is it necessary to button the front of the coat, if it is worn open, will it still provide protection?
Reply: It is a good thing to strongly request that the front of the anti-static coat be closed. This is done to prevent exposure of non-conductive and non-grounded close-fitting ordinary clothing. Even an open ESD coat provides some protection, as the ESD coat covers your cuffs, back and sides. But the frontal part of the human body is where most sensitive products come into close or close contact.
