How to use the surface resistance tester



Surface resistance tester (ESD Resistance tester), as the name suggests, is an instrument for testing the surface resistance of objects.
There are many models and brands of surface resistance testers. In order to measure the resistance of the object surface more accurately, it is recommended that you choose a tester with a voltage selection key. This type of instrument will have better accuracy and higher accuracy. . Many domestic joint ventures and sole proprietorships use the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission. In order to move closer to international standards, adapt to the requirements of international advanced electrostatic protection technology, and improve the degree of integration between our domestic standards and international standards, my country's industry standard SJ/T10694-2006 "Electronic General Specifications for Anti-static Testing of Product Manufacturing and Application Systems” is equivalent to adopting the test voltage regulations in IEC61340-5-1. If the user does not put forward safety requirements for insulation resistance, we should perform the above test procedures when conducting resistance tests.
Before measuring, first make sure that the surface to be tested is clean and free from contamination.
1. Surface resistance: (SurfaceResistivity)

This method is also suitable for the measurement of multi-layer materials, but the temperature and humidity conditions during the measurement must be indicated in the impedance value report.
A . Put the watch on the surface of the object to be measured.
B. Adjust the switch to the desired voltage position (10 volts or 100 volts)
C. Keep pressing the measurement button with a pressure of about 5 pounds. At this time, the LCD screen will display the measured surface impedance, temperature and relative humidity values. The entire measurement process takes about fifteen seconds.

·The unit of relative humidity is percentage. In each measurement, after pressing the measurement button, the ACL-800 meter will continuously display the trimming measurement value, and within about forty-five seconds after releasing the button, it will display the last measurement value.
2 . Concentric Ring Probe Resistivity method (Concentric Ring Probe Resistivity method) (concentric ring probe is optional) Insert the connecting plug into the two 3.5 mm jacks of the meter, and connect the banana plug with the concentric ring probe (optional) connect. After placing the probe on the surface of the object to be tested, press the button for about 15 seconds, the correct temperature and relative humidity will be displayed on the LCD screen, and the correct surface impedance value will be multiplied by 10 to the reading on the LCD screen. The unit is ohm/□.
2. Surface ResistanceMeasurement (RTT)
This measurement method is in line with the EOS/ESD-S4.1 measurement requirements to measure the resistance between two points independent of the ground. The measurement results obtained by this measurement method are consistent with the handling of the measured object, between two 5-pound probes Therefore, the correct measurement procedure should be selected, and the test should be carried out under the same required measurement conditions each time.
A . Insert the connecting plug into the two 3.5mm jacks of the meter, and connect the banana plug to the two 5-pound probes.
B. Place the two probes on the surface of the object to be measured according to the measurement procedures.
C. Select the desired voltage value (10 volts or 100 volts)
D. Press the switch until the selected voltage value (10 volts or 100 volts) is displayed, and continue to press the switch until the measured resistance (in ohms), relative humidity and temperature are displayed on the LCD screen.
3. Surface-To-Ground Resistance Measurement(RTG)
This measurement method is used to measure the surface resistance between one point on the surface of an object and another ground point on the surface. The measurement method complies with the EOS/ESDS4.1 measurement standard.
A . Insert one end of the two wires into the two 3.5mm jacks of the meter respectively, and then connect one of them to the alligator clip and the other to a 5-pound disc probe.
B. Connect the alligator clip to the known grounding point, and place the disc probe on the surface of the object to be measured according to the measurement requirements.
C. Press the measurement button until the resistance (unit is ohm), relative humidity and temperature are displayed on the display screen, and the measurement results comply with EIA, EOS/ESD, ANSI, IEC-93, CECC, ASTM measurement standards, for high-impedance materials The measurement is guaranteed
In order to obtain high-precision measurement results, care should be taken not to overlap the two lead wires, and not to touch the probe, lead wire and the measured object with your hands.
