Why Antistatic Products Need Grounding
Antistatic products (such as antistatic wrist straps, mats, and flooring) must be grounded. The purpose is to provide a low-impedance discharge path for generated static electricity, allowing it to be safely conducted to the ground. Without grounding, static electricity will accumulate on the surface and cannot be released, not only failing to provide protection but also easily damaging precision electronic components or causing fires.

The specific functions of grounding in electrostatic protection are as follows: Discharging charge and eliminating potential differences: Humans or equipment generate a large amount of static electricity through friction during activity. Grounding can quickly discharge these charges to the ground, preventing electrostatic discharge (ESD) due to excessive potential differences, and protecting sensitive semiconductor chips and other electronic components. Ensuring equipment stability: Static electricity accumulation can cause zero-point drift or voltage drift in equipment, affecting the normal operation of precision instruments. Protecting personal safety: When grounding products such as antistatic wrist straps, a 1 MΩ protective resistor is usually connected in series. This not only quickly discharges static electricity but also limits the current in case of accidental leakage, preventing electric shock.
