Electrostatic protection in mobile phone design and production

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) generally occurs on two objects with different electric potentials. When they are in direct contact or electrostatic induction, the transfer process of electrostatic charge is the electrostatic discharge process. The strength of electrostatic discharge can be regarded as the magnitude of the electrostatic charge potential difference between two objects, the larger the electrostatic discharge, the stronger. There are many reasons for how to form a potential difference, that is, the accumulation of static electricity. Friction, peeling, etc. will cause the transfer of charges on the object, thereby forming a potential difference. Moreover, it is impossible to completely eliminate static electricity accumulation and charge transfer, so ESD protection is ubiquitous, and ESD overvoltage protection has become a basic requirement for the design of various electronic devices.

Most of the new wireless handheld products are equipped with high-speed data interfaces, high-resolution LCD screens and camera modules, and even some mobile phones have the function of receiving TV programs. Despite the addition of many new features, the size of mobile phones is still thinning and shrinking. Many functions are concentrated in a small space, and many major integrated circuits are manufactured using more advanced technology, which leads to more serious ESD problems in mobile phone design and assembly. If it cannot be solved well, it may cause the phone to work abnormally, crash or even damage the phone. These problems must be solved at the beginning of mobile phone design and protected during mobile phone production.

Currently, the parts that need ESD protection in mobile phones are:

1) SIM card interface circuit;

2) Keyboard circuit;

3) Headphone and microphone circuit;

4) Data and USB ports;

5) Power port;

6) Color LCD driver port and LCD backlight circuit.

The basic use in the design is IC internal protection and IC external protection, both of which have advantages and disadvantages.

In the assembly process, regular personnel entering and exiting, real-time electrostatic feedback, and standardized operation are the first requirements of major mobile phone assembly plants. Systematized management of the ESD method of the entire workshop can greatly reduce electrostatic charges. The advantages of ESD static monitoring system: 1) Real-time monitoring. 2) Data management. 3) Safe and stable. 4) Flexible configuration.
