Methods for Selecting Antistatic Equipment

There are many types of antistatic equipment. How can you choose the right equipment to save costs while achieving good antistatic effects?

1. What is the most common source of static electricity?

Stabilizing electricity is generated during human activities such as walking and standing. The human body is the most common source of static electricity, therefore, static electricity protection for the human body is of paramount importance.

2. What is the most effective measure to control static electricity on the human body?

The most effective measure to control static electricity on the human body is to connect the body to the ground, i.e., "grounding." Therefore, people should wear antistatic shoes. To maintain a connection between the human body and the ground, the ground must also be anti-static to conduct static electricity from the body to the earth. Therefore, anti-static mats or anti-static composite rubber sheets can be used, connected to the ground with an anti-static grounding wire. If the budget allows, anti-static raised floors can be chosen, especially when planning and designing computer rooms and factories. If the computer room/factory is already set up and the equipment is already installed, and you don't want the installation of anti-static equipment to cause production downtime, then inexpensive and easy-to-install anti-static mats or anti-static composite rubber sheets are still a good option.

3. Does wearing anti-static shoes and using anti-static mats, anti-static composite rubber sheets, or anti-static raised floors guarantee a good anti-static effect?

Wearing anti-static shoes and using anti-static mats, anti-static composite rubber sheets, or anti-static raised floors does not necessarily guarantee a good anti-static effect. People usually wear socks and insoles. Young people's feet sweat easily, and these socks and insoles can conduct static electricity. However, for middle-aged and elderly people, especially in dry seasons when their shoes are dry, these socks and insoles cannot conduct static electricity. Furthermore, many manufacturers only require workers to wear anti-static clothing and shoes, neglecting the adverse effects of socks and insoles, rendering these anti-static shoes and flooring ineffective. Therefore, placing a "human body comprehensive resistance detector" at the entrance of the machine room or factory can quickly and accurately detect people wearing substandard anti-static shoes, socks, and insoles.

4. Why should people wear anti-static work clothes in addition to anti-static shoes?

Wearing anti-static work clothes in addition to anti-static shoes is necessary to better control static electricity on the human body. This is because clothing can also carry high levels of static electricity, especially since most clothing nowadays is made of synthetic fibers, which can generate thousands or even tens of thousands of volts of static electricity.

5. Does wearing anti-static work clothes provide anti-static protection?

No. Experiments have shown that wearing anti-static work clothes without anti-static shoes and a properly installed anti-static floor provides extremely poor anti-static performance.

6. What measures should be taken to better control static electricity on the human body?

A complete set of anti-static facilities for the human body and electrostatic measuring instruments to test the reliability and effectiveness of these facilities are necessary.

7. Can wearing a wireless bracelet (also called a wireless wristband) provide anti-static protection?

No. Based on our current testing of wireless wristbands and wireless bracelets on the market, almost none of them offer any anti-static effectiveness. To be responsible to our customers, we do not recommend, sell, produce, or use wireless wristbands or wireless bracelets.
