Types of static eliminators



Many types of static eliminators can be used to generate ions. The main factor that differentiates one from another is whether the device uses high-voltage AC, DC, or pulsed DC current to generate ions.
AC ionizers produce negative and positive ions by applying high voltage to a series of closely spaced emitter points and cycling them at a frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. They are commonly used in grids, ionization blowers, guns and rod-type static eliminators. this technology. Due to rapid cycling and ion recombination, the AC system must have high levels of airflow to blow the ions away from the emission point.
Steady-state DC ionizers work by providing separate emitter points for each polarity of ion. Positive high pressure is continuously applied to half of the emission points, while negative high pressure is applied to the other half. This technology is used in indoor systems, laminar flow hoods, ionization blowers and air guns. Steady-state DC ionizers can operate at both low and high airflows if the emitter's ion needles are spaced far enough apart to reduce ion recombination.
Pulsed DC ionizers use positive and negative emitter points that alternately turn on and off to form a cloud of positive and negative ions. They are used in clean rooms, laminar flow hoods and non-clean rooms. Cycle time can be adjusted based on airflow conditions. Pulsed DC allows either polarity to be left on as needed.
The smaller size of today's semiconductors makes them more susceptible to electrostatic damage. A few years ago, sensitivity levels were around 200 V. Now with the increasing sophistication of these devices, this level has dropped to 20 V or even less.
In order to achieve this extremely low level in your production environment, you may need to rethink your entire ESD control program. For example, under the 200V level requirement, the wrist strap can provide effective electrostatic protection, but under the 20V level requirement, the protection effect provided by the wrist strap is minimal. All of your static control products, including static eliminators and passive control devices such as wrist straps and table mats, must complement each other by being able to meet lower voltage level requirements.
